Mythological Story Behind Ganesh Chaturthi
According to the mythology the story of Ganesh Chaturthi is connected to Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva. Maa Parvati created a boy using sandalwood paste from her body and then gave him life. After giving life to the statue she asked him to guard the main entrance so that she could take a bath.
Ganesha did that according to the instructions. When Parvati was taking a bath Lord Shiva returned home and tried to enter the house. Ganesh the boy was standing to protect the entrance then he stopped to shiva. Lord Shiva was unable to recognize the child and got angry at this and in a moment of rage he cut off the boy head.
Finally Goddess Parvati came outside and saw everything. She was heartbroken and furious at seeing this scene. To calm Parvati Lord Shiva promised to give another life to the dead boy. After that he sent his followers and asked them to bring the head of the first alive creature they discovered. Followers left and came back with the head of an elephant. Lord Shiva placed the elephant head on the boy body and gave him life.
That boy was then named Lord Ganesh on that day and was blessed as the leader of all the gods. Lord Shiva gave him a blessing as he will be the first god in every worship. This is the reason for worshipping Ganesha before any other deity in every spiritual occasion.
